Research degrees:
The school offers a three-year PhD and a one-year MPhil (although both can be taken part-time if desired).
The School also offers a programme of 1 year MSc by research degrees. Students on all these programmes are linked
to one of our research groups where they work on a research topic of their choice.
School has around 70 research (PhD, MPhil, and MSc) students on each year.
Taught degrees:
The MSc in Photon Science is a unique course run in association with the University of Manchesters flagship the Photon Science Institute and is available as a one year full time course.
Our Nuclear Science and Technology MSc is offered as a one year full-time course or as a 3 year part-time course. NTEC MSc
We have a new, innovative 12-month MSc course, Radio Imaging and Sensing which began in September 2010.
PhD in NanoScience:
Applications are invited for up to 20 PhD places in a Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) in NanoScience. NOWNANO involves top-rated research groups from the Schools of Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Materials, Electronic Engineering, Pharmacy and Medicine at Manchester, and the Department of Physics in Lancaster University. Students will receive state of the art research training in key techniques before embarking on a 3.5 year research project in one of the large spectrum of projects.
