PhD student - Jodrell Bank
The Control Room at the Jodrell Bank Observatory

The Jodrell Bank Observatory comprises research activities in astronomy and astrophysics at The University of Manchester, the world leading facilities of the Jodrell Bank Observatory, the e-MERLIN/VLBI National Facility and the Square Kilometre Array Organisation Headquarters. The Jodrell Bank Observatory site also welcomes visitors to the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre.

We are involved in the operation, construction and use of a number of facilities, including:

ALMA

ALMA

We host the UK ALMA Regional Centre, providing support to UK scientists using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array.

Mark II Telescope - e-MERLIN and VLBI

e-MERLIN and VLBI

The UK's National Facility for Radio Astronomy.

High Performance Computing - HYDRA

High Performance Computing

Our facilities include a number of general purpose and specialised computing clusters.

Lovell Telescope

The Lovell Telescope

At 76 metres in diameter, this is the world's third largest fully-steerable telescope.

SKA Project - Layout of the SKA antennas on the ground

The SKA Project

We host the Program Development Office of the Square Kilometre Array.

Virtual Observatory
