Director of Postgraduate Education and Professor of Astrophysics
"Manchester has played an illustrious role in the history of physics, and today we do ground-breaking research in almost all areas of contemporary physics."
As a postgraduate at Manchester, you will join a world-leading community of physicists with a huge variety of research interests. There is further information about available PhD projects in our Postgraduate Project Booklet 2017/18
Please note: To apply for a specific research group for a PhD or MSc by research, please select the programme of PhD Physics or MSc by Research Physics and specify the research group in the project section of the application form, unless you are applying for a PhD or MSc by Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics as there is a separate application programme for these.
Note: Although the course requires 1 year full time study, students should expect the process of examination of the dissertation may take several months. MSc degrees are usually awarded several months after the end of the programme.
